I had the undeniable privilege of living in Botswana for seven years in the early 1990s. It was a life-affirming experience that seeped into my bones and will be there for as long as I have them.
You can’t forget the aromatics in the Brachystegia leaves or the green of the Mopane trees flushing all at once at the end of the dry season before there has been a drop of rain. The grin on the face of the youngster who knows he is going to persuade you to give him all the coins in your pocket.
I left that glorious country in September 1996.
Back then there were 1.54 million people in the country. Three decades later there are 2.61 million people with ongoing annual growth of ~1.6% or if you prefer 114 additional people every day.
In Nigeria, it’s just shy of 14,000 people per day.
Globally it is roughly 189,000 people per day.
Curious that we cannot talk about it.
Have a good one.
