Insight | Credentials Don't Convince
Authority is earned in institutions. Trust is earned elsewhere.
Every week a credentialed expert testifies, publishes, or briefs, and is systematically disbelieved. The instinct is to accept that the talking head is always right and diagnose the audience.
This insight argues something the expert class finds less comfortable. The credential itself, the signal of institutional membership, is doing active damage in the contexts where it is most confidently deployed.
